What Causes Foot and Ankle Swelling?

Swelling might result after a foot or ankle injury. Sprained ankles happen when an accident or slip causes the ligaments holding the ankle in place to extend farther than they should. Use cold packs, compression bandages, rest without putting any weight on the injured foot or ankle, and elevate the foot on a stool or cushion to minimise swelling.

Throughout pregnancy, some ankle and foot swelling is typical. After the 20th week of pregnancy, high blood pressure and protein in the urine start to appear together with sudden or severe edoema, a hazardous condition. In general, swelling in the feet and ankles is not a cause for concern, especially if you have been standing or walking a lot. It is filtered through lymph nodes, which entrap and eliminate undesirable elements like germs. However the fluid can become obstructed when there is an issue with the lymph nodes or veins. Lymph accumulation, if left untreated, can impede wound healing, cause infection, and result in deformity.
