The Decade of Ecosystem Restoration, sponsored by the UN, has begun. In order to repair the harm that humanity has caused and set us on the path to a better future, young people and ecopreneurs from all over the world, collectively referred to as #GenerationRestoration, are enacting change. The Youth Challenge of the World Economic Forum included numerous incredible initiatives and concepts from all across the world.

The UN Decade runs from 2021 through 2030, which is also the deadline for the Sustainable Development Goals and the timeline scientists have identified as the last chance to prevent catastrophic climate change.

The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration is a global call to action for the preservation and restoration of ecosystems for the benefit of both people and the environment. It attempts to stop environmental degradation and restore them in order to accomplish universal goals. We cannot improve people’s lives, combat climate change, or halt the extinction of wildlife without maintaining healthy ecosystems.

Young Ecopreneurs from all around the world are leading the charge and advancing this field by advocating for ecosystem restoration and regenerative, sustainable action. They are assisting humanity in changing its worldview from one that emphasizes extraction to one that emphasizes rejuvenation and harmony with nature.

They are demonstrating that there is another option. While assuring the preservation and improvement of a healthy planet, humanity can coexist and prosper. There is great hope for humanity’s ability to right past wrongs and have a profoundly good influence on both other people and the environment.

Forest Regeneration and Afforestation

It would be impossible to list all of the projects involved in forest planting and regeneration. The Trillion Trees Challenge is being pursued by many people worldwide. Many are contributing fresh ideas and creativity to this area. Some, like Dark matter Labs’ Trees AI, aim to create transparent and verifiable financial structures to make nature-based solutions feasible on a large scale.

Gain Forest, a sustainable non-profit with headquarters in Switzerland, uses AI to track and reward good stewardship of the environment. The Trillion Trees solution from Cultivar is a finance mechanism that enables organizations to invest in projects that promote regeneration. Additionally, Farm-Trace offers tracking on zero deforestation, forest cover, carbon sequestered over time, and activities like tree planting to assist farmers in measuring and reporting their sustainable process and impact.
